Gold Coast United’s ‘Mr Consistency’ throughout the 2009/10 season, Michael was recognised by his peers and fans when he collected both the Players’ Player of the Year and the Members’ Player of the Year prizes.
Athletic, driven and skilful, United’s Vice-Captain led by example, producing one top drawer performance after another which resulted in calls for the versatile defender to be rewarded with a return to the Socceroos fold. More of the same in the 2010/11 campaign will surely see Thwaite in the Green & Gold once again.
Previously capped at every senior level by the Socceroos, he was part of the squad that famously defeated Uruguay to qualify for the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
Popular both on and off the field, Michael played every minute of every 2009/10 match, appearing in a range of different roles and positions for Miron Bleiberg’s side, highlighting his quality, versatility and dedication to the Gold Coast’s cause.
2009/10 season: 28 appearances.
